Mates and Me

Knowledge, Memory, and Me

Distinguish Mate Knowledge from owner observations and saved memory.

Use Knowledge for material you maintain with a Mate, and Me for information about you that should be useful across projects and Mates. Memory refers to Mate-specific recorded conversation material; it is separate from both.

What you want to keep Where it belongs
A research brief or review checklist The Mate's Knowledge
A preference such as “Give short recommendations during code review” Me, after Clay reviews the observation
The outcome and remaining work of a project task The project's Logs
A project's coding rules or test instructions Its repository instruction files

#Maintain a Mate's Knowledge

Open the Mate's full workspace, then Knowledge in its tool palette. Create documents for reference prose or databases for repeated fields, such as a research register. The Knowledge workbench and its databases are available in Mate workspaces, not ordinary project workspaces.

For example, save a “Proposal review checklist” document and ask the Mate to use it during reviews. Save the document revision explicitly; a recovery draft is not the published version. Follow Knowledge documents or Knowledge databases for the complete workflow.

#Understand Mate Memory

Mate Memory can contain summaries of earlier exchanges. Supported mention and debate workflows can record summaries and use relevant material in later work. This does not mean every conversation is saved or that every earlier detail is available on the next turn.

A Memory viewer is not an established workflow in the current Mate workspace. For material you need to inspect and maintain yourself, use Knowledge. For an exact exchange, return to its conversation history.

#Review Me in Clay's workspace

  1. Open Clay's full workspace.
  2. Choose Me from its tool palette.
  3. Use Search what Clay knows or the category filter.
  4. Open an entry to read its evidence and revisions.
  5. Comment to correct or refine it, or use Delete to remove it.

Me belongs to you across projects and Mates. A project agent or another Mate can report an observation, but Clay reviews it before saving it as knowledge. Ask Clay to review requests review of pending observations. New/updated badges help you find saved changes.

#Correct or forget

Give the intended scope: “This preference applies only to code reviews,” or “Forget my old location; it is no longer current.” Check the entry after review.

Deleting through Me removes the active memory once the change is saved; a deletion audit record remains. It does not erase earlier conversations or copies held by an external provider. Sharing a project does not give teammates access to Me.

Use Project Logs for project outcomes and Notes for reminders that need attention now.
